We arrived on our scheduled flight yesterday. Everyone was tired and ready to get home to their loved ones. Saying good bye was a welcomed event because it meant we were going home. But it was also a sad time because it meant an end to a great mission trip. On the bright side, I believe long lasting new friendships were made, and a desire to serve God's people in Kenya will remain with this incredible group. So welcome us home, listen to our stories, look at pictures, and support our ongoing efforts to do God's work. And if this experience touches your heart, get involved some how. Sponsor a child: it only costs $20 a month to provide education, uniform & shoes, clean water, 2 meals per day (mostly their only meals of the day) & the love of Christ! All that for only $20 per month! We spend that at a fast food restaurant. Or look into a future mission trip. Or pray for Fox River Christian Church's ongoing work in Kenya.
Thank you for supporting those who went on this trip. As I recall getting to know each person, I am so very grateful for each of them contributing their valuable time, energy & money to go on this mission. Each person made a huge contribution and a huge difference in the lives of the people we met in Kenya.

We're in London!
Well what an interesting trip! I'm so glad this happened on the way home instead of the way to Kenya. Everyone is holding up moderately well! (There's a few grumpies but I'm sure you know who....:) JJ!
Seriously, everyone has done a nice job being patient and going with the flow. Today everyone is happy to have a nice hotel to stay at, get a good nights sleep and have a good meal. We will leave London at 10:05am London time and get to Chicago at 1:12pm (the 3 separate tickets: Bruce, Ted & Spike leave at 10:15am & arrive Chicago at 12:50pm), if all goes as planned :) That's kinda funny!
We are anxious to get home, hug our loved ones & share our stories of the amazing people in Kenya (we will be missing them so much).

Delayed Flights Home
Because of machanical problems the Kenya Medical Team's flight from Nairobi to London was canceled. The airline put them up in a hotel to get a few hours of sleep. Their flight out of Nairobi is scheduled for 11:25am Sunday morning (Kenya time). At this time it looks like they will spend Sunday night in London and make the journey home on Monday. Because of the time difference they can leave London in the morning and arrive in Chicago early afternoon.
The airline is telling them that they will be on the same flight only a day late. However, they do not have boarding passes so they will confirm their plans once they have boarding passes in hand. Right now the understanding is that all of them will be on the same flight home. I will update the blog when I hear something for certain.
Thank you for praying for them during their journey!

Gospel Center in Majaoni
What an amazing day at Injili (Gospel Center) in Majaoni! We saw 245 children today, staff & teachers and many people from the community. It was such a smooth operation, too bad it was our last day. The team did an amazing job yet again. I am so proud of their incredible efforts & compassion during this medical trip. Today was our longest day, we worked until 6:30pm. The team had a difficult time turning people away. Its definitely one of the toughest parts of the trip...not being able to help everyone who needs it.
We are all exhausted but feeling like we made a huge difference. As we take a couple of days to see the incredible wildlife at Tsavo East National Park we will be able to relax and recoup. Hopefully reflecting and praying about our role in God's plan for ourselves and the children at the centers. Its a lot to process, we'll be forever changed because of this country and these people.
I won't be blogging tomorrow night at the safari lodge, but Friday night I will have some great pictures for you to see. (Please pray for Cheetahs! :)
the day began with a few stitches for Bobby & Lisa's babysitter before we left the hotel |
Ugali (maze flour/corn meal & water mixture) & sukuna (cooked collard greens) |
ok seriously?! Could they be any cuter?! |

Tuesday at Vipingo
Today we finished seeing the children at Crossroads Academy in Vipingo. Yesterday we were able to see the 3 kindergarten classes (called KG 1, KG 2 & KG 3 & Standard 1 & 2 . Ages in the KG classes are approximately 4-6 but may also be a year or 2 older. Today we had to finish up with Standard 3 & 4 (3rd & 4th grades). Then we saw teachers, Bible College students & members of the community. Missionary Jim Horne has his bible college located at Vipingo's center. These Kenyan men become pastors & start churches in Kenya.
The team did a great job working through the medical needs of many people today. We were happy to be able to help with follow up on a child who may have had a serious condition. Kristen & Paul O. (Jim's assistant) took her to a local clinic to get some labtests done. Can you believe that for $20 she was able to get 3 ordered labs done?!! Some team members estimated the cost in the US to be over $1000. Well, anyways she did not have appendicitis as was suspected, so we were relieved to hear that. She will be fine.
A few team members have stayed back at the hotel due to some sicknesses, but are rebounding well. Thankfully Brandon was dropping IV's like they were hot.... Nice Job! I've never felt so safe in Africa with all of these amazingly talented medical professionals!
There is such a great need for even the very basic health care here. My prayer is that this trip is just the beginning of great things our big God has in mind for our sweet little kids here. Please pray for this group for health & well being as we wrap up our medical clinics tomorrow. So much processing and changes will be in our futures because of this experience. Emotional & physical exhaustion is sure to follow. Pray for our team and for God to lead us to what he has planned for us personally as well as bringing more health care to these kids that deserve the very best.

Vipingo
Wow today was amazing taking care of the medical needs of the children at Crossroads Academy in Vipingo. By now the team is working very efficiently & becoming familiar with the common medical conditions in these villages. We are also learning about the cultural differences that are essential to providing good care and building relationships. I think this may be the most challenging part of our mission. The team has so much love and respect for the Kenyan people & it is very apparent in the care given to each person. We are so grateful for the Kenyans who helped us communicate with the children. Without them we would not be able to find out what they need or what problems they are having. They also help the children feel more comfortable in an unfamiliar situation.
We ate lunch with the kids, pilau (rice, meat, potatoes, carrots & spices). It was delicious! Paul O. who runs the school had cold soda on hand for us! It was great!
After the medical clinic we headed to Shanzu for some shopping, I only bought 2 bags. Kristen says "Wow! That's a miracle!" HaHa! I love those bags!
